There were only 531 new COVID-19 cases in Italy over the last 24 hours and 50 deaths, but the Lombardy figures were not included.
The pandemic continues to ease in the Peninsula, with Lombardy a distinct outlier that is pushing the overall statistics up considerably.
With just 50 deaths registered since yesterday throughout the rest of the country, that is the lowest figure since February, when the crisis began.
The total death toll since the first case on February 20 is now 32,785 (excluding today’s Lombardy statistics).
It’s not clear why Lombardy have not yet provided their statistics for today, as they have been recently responsible for approximately half all the deaths and cases.
What Lombardy did confirm was the number of new positive cases – 285 – taking the total for the country over 24 hours to 531.
Other than Lombardy (285) and Liguria (53), all the other regions registered under 50 new positive cases.
A further 1,639 people were given the all-clear, so the number of active cases in Italy fell by 1,158 to 56,594.
Sardinia has seemingly eradicated the pandemic, as today the island registered no new cases or deaths.
