Senad Lulic jokes that May 26 has become his ‘second birthday,’ as it marks the day he scored Lazio’s Coppa Italia Final winner against Roma in 2013.

“The more years that go by, the more I realise what that goal really meant,” Lulic told Lazio Style Channel.

“It’s a wonderful and unforgettable feeling. I receive so many messages on this day, more than on my birthday! We all know how important this date is for Lazio fans and I just wish I could reply to everyone.”

Not only did the Biancocelesti win the Coppa Italia and qualify for Europe, but they also did it by beating arch-rivals Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

“It wasn’t just the game, but everything around it too. My wife was pregnant at the time and I remember telling her it was probably better if she didn’t watch the Final, just in case.

“I felt the tension and could see it in the eyes of the other players, from Stefano Mauri to Cristian Ledesma, who had been at Lazio for many years. If I was playing that derby today, I’d be just as tense as they were, because I now understand what it meant.”

Lulic found the net in another decisive match for Lazio in December, beating Juventus for the Italian Super Cup.

“I am truly proud to wear the Lazio armband and lift trophies to the sky for this club. I proved that the Coppa Italia goal wasn’t a fluke by scoring in another Final.”
