Ander Herrera has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain teammate Edinson Cavani ‘wants to play in Spain’, in a blow to Inter.

Inter are reported to be in hot pursuit of Cavani, with his contract expiring next month and PSG having already bought his replacement – Mauro Icardi.

However, Atletico Madrid have equally been linked with the 33-year-old and Herrera suggested Diego Simeone’s side had the upper hand.

“I know Cavani wants to play in Spain because it’s a league and a country that he loves,” the former Manchester United midfielder told AS.

“In fact, I’ve been wondering a lot about what he’ll do, but since we left Paris I’ve not had the chance to speak to him and I’m unaware of his current situation.”

Despite that, Calciomercato.com warns his demands put off Atletico in January and that they may not match the Nerazzurri’s offer of a €7m salary for two seasons.

The Beneamata only moved for Cavani after they missed out on Olivier Giroud and Dries Mertens.
