The club released a statement after having learned about the relegation and were struggling to accept the decision made by the Federcalcio.

“The Club deeply regrets the decision taken by the FIGC today, who, justifying behind the wide powers received to deal with the COVID-19 crisis, has decided to kill a virtuous club like AC Gozzano,” the statement read.

“It even went against the indications that the UEFA had foreseen, if it wasn’t possible to complete the championship, to determine the relegations and promotions through play-offs and play-outs in the professional leagues.

“With all the respect we have towards the institutions, we are curious to know the reasons that prompted the board to only partially adopt the application of article 49 of the NOIF, with 11 games remaining and only a six point gap between Gozzano and safety.

“In recent months, we have repeatedly been told by President [Gabriele] Gravina that football should have won against the damned virus and the professional leagues should have been completed.

“Contrary to all this, we just have to note that today, one of the ugliest pages of Italian football has been written and it was neither the sport nor the pitch that won, but only the virus and the consequent political choices.

“Having said that, we will never give up, we will protect our rights, in all the appropriate venues, since we will never accept such a decision.”
