“There’s a lot of passion, resilience, technical quality and a great squad,” Gasperini told the club’s official website. “Turning around a game like that, against a squad playing for the Scudetto, is a great achievement.

“[It started] in the second period of the first half when we stopped Lazio from getting space. Gosens then gave us the belief that we could turn it around.”

After the win, Atalanta sit six points above Roma at fifth and continued their run of seven games unbeaten.

Gasperini targets another season in the Champions League and claims nothing has been decided with 11 games remaining, starting with Udinese on Sunday.

“They will be fundamental for the season. We want to return to the Champions League,” he added. “We are in a good position, but nothing is set.

“A win like this one against Lazio gives you a massive boost. There’s no time to cheer when you are playing every three days.

“All games are complicated, without the audience. You need to have the head with you, always.”
