The 38-year-old is closing in on his return to the pitch but his future at Milanello has not been resolved, as he signed a six-month deal with an option of a further year when he arrived as a free agent.

Capello claimed Stefano Pioli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were influential in turning things around for Milan this year and hopes to see the veteran continue beyond the current campaign.

“I have said it several times, Milan must keep Zlatan,” he told Tuttosport. “They must manage it well and keep his commitment attached, as he is the focal point of the team.”

Ibrahimovic has contributed four goals and one assist in 10 games since January and will need six more to keep up his incredible double-digit record.

Milan continue with a match against Roma this Sunday but will not have the Swede back and could also have to cope without Simon Kjaer, who is doubtful for the big game.
