Ibrahimovic appeared to be on his way out of Milan, but he made some revealing comments when awarded a jersey at the club’s training ground to mark his century of games in Rossonero.

“It’s a great honour to play 100 games for Milan. I hope to play lots more,” said the 38-year-old.

“Thank you, guys. It’s all thanks to you that I have no competition, otherwise I wouldn’t be playing!”

Paolo Maldini, whose own future as technical director is up in the air, was full of praise for the striker as he handed over a commemorative medal.

“You’ve played for several teams. However, I noticed you had made more than 100 appearances for only three of them – Ajax, Inter and PSG.

“Therefore, this is a great and important milestone for you to have reached. Bravo, Zlatan.”

Zlatan is likely to make his 101st appearance when Milan face Bologna in Serie A this evening.
