Florenzi was expected to lead the post-Totti and De Rossi era at Roma with Lorenzo Pellegrini, especially after he signed a new contract in the summer of 2018.
According to Alessandro Lucci, he even gave up ‘a lot of money’ from Inter just to keep playing for his hometown club.

Florenzi was expected to lead the post-Totti and De Rossi era at Roma with Lorenzo Pellegrini, especially after he signed a new contract in the summer of 2018.
According to Alessandro Lucci, he even gave up ‘a lot of money’ from Inter just to keep playing for his hometown club.
“Alessandro is one of the purest and more wholesome guys I’ve ever met, a real romantic,” Lucci told Il Foglio.
“He made a decision of someone with Roma in their blood. Whether it was the right or wrong one, I don’t know.
“What I know is that two years ago, when his contract with the Giallorossi was due to expire, a very significant five-year contract from Spalletti’s Inter was waiting for him.
“At the age of 27, he gave up a lot of money just to stay at Roma. Having said that, icons are disappearing from football.”
The 29-year-old was not repaid for his loyalty as he was shipped out to Valencia in January, with Paulo Fonseca preferring to bring Bruno Peres back from the cold.
“Today, it’s difficult to be one because players have too many interests and are overexposed.
“Fans live on passion and are emotionally vulnerable. It’s why they tend to immediately change their minds [about players].
“It only takes a moment to destroy 15 years of love. There are also clubs that push for sales: twenty years ago, Sensi and Berlusconi would’ve been ruined if they had sold Totti and Maldini.
“Today, however, clubs tell you that no-one isn’t for sale.”
