Atletico Madrid have announced that there were two positive COVID-19 tests in their Champions League delegation.
The Final Eight tournament kicks off in Lisbon on Wednesday August 12 with Atalanta-PSG, followed by RB Leipzig against Atletico Madrid on Thursday.
However, in a statement, Atleti announced that all members of the first team and the club’s delegation underwent COVID-19 tests as required by the UEFA protocol.
Of these tests, two came back positive. It is not clear if they are players or members of staff.
They have been isolated in their respective homes and new tests will be carried out on the first team and members of the delegation, along with close contacts of those who tested positive.
As explained via the statement and Football Espana, the squad has not yet travelled to Portugal for the tournament.
They will all now face a second round of testing tomorrow, before a decision is made over travel plans.
At this stage, a postponement is not considered to be likely.
