Pescara fought back to beat Perugia 2-1 in the first leg of the Serie B relegation play-off, but there was a very controversial incident in stoppages.
The decider will be on Friday evening at the Stadio Curi.
Perugia took the lead somewhat against the run of play just before half-time, with Kouan tapping in the Falzerano cross from the right.
The Delfini came out fighting for the second half, Masciangelo sprinting forward to set up Galano’s header, followed by a double save on Maniero and Hugo Campagnaro.
Pescara had penalty appeals for handball before the break, but did get the decision for Falcinelli’s handling offence, as Maniero converted to turn the game around.
Memushaj saw his rocket parried by the impressive Vicario, who kept Perugia in the tie.
There was huge controversy in stoppages, as Perugia were making a counter-attack when an extra ball was thrown on to the pitch from the Pescara bench.
This sort of incident already happened in a Serie B promotion play-off in 2018, when Frosinone’s bench were repeatedly rolling extra balls to stop Palermo counter-attacks.
It sparked a furious reaction from Perugia and a touchline row, not to mention 11 minutes of stoppages.
Pescara 2-1 Perugia
Kouan 40 (Per), Galano 58 (Pes), Maniero pen 68 (Pes)
