The Golden Shoe winner Ciro Immobile says it is an honour to see his name close to those of Messi and Ronaldo and reveals David Trezeguet was his idol.
"Look at the list of winners. Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo alternate, and the only one who got in their way was Luis Suarez in 2016, another champion,” Immobile told France Football.
“Seeing my name by their side is just amazing.
“Without the Ballon d’Or this year, the Golden Shoe has more value. Although they are two different awards, one depends on collective votes and trophies, the other exclusively on statistics.
“I also beat Robert Lewandowski, a potential Ballon d’Or winner this season.”
Immobile revealed his former Juventus teammate David Trezeguet was his idol when he was young.
"He left me an incredible impression in the penalty area. I’ve never seen anyone like him.
“He had the coordination and the technique to score on any type of cross and with any part of his body.
“There were also Christian Vieri with the Azzurri, Filippo Inzaghi in the Champions League, Luca Toni and Alberto Gilardino at the 2006 World Cup. I started to understand football with these guys".
