Italy Under-21 international Scamacca got the equaliser to cancel out Jakub Jankto’s opener in the 1-1 Derby della Lanterna.

“It was my first derby with Genoa, so I’ll never forget it, but of course I dream of experiencing the derby with a crowd in the stands,” the coach told Sky Sport italia.

Maran shelved the three-man defence for this game, moving to a 4-3-2-1 formation, having finally received the all-clear from COVID-19 cases.

“We hadn’t expressed ourselves well lately, so as soon as we had the options to play this way, I changed to this tactic.

“Gianluca had a good impact, he worked hard and he tries every day to improve himself. You can see he has a great shot on him, good footwork, and he’ll continue to get stronger.

“The plan was always to pick some young players who are potential champions we invest in. Scamacca arrived with the right attitude, he needs to continue like that.

“We also require more experienced players who help to support the younger elements and make them feel ready to take risks.”
