Jurgen Klopp said Atalanta are Liverpool’s ‘biggest challenge so far’ in the Champions League. ‘They are very difficult to play against’.

The Reds coach prepares his men for a tough match against a ‘well-organised’ Orobici at the Gewiss Stadium tomorrow and compared Gian Piero Gasperini’s men to Leeds United from the Premier League.

“Top players and top recruitment. Very good players and well-organised, and play a system with 100 per cent conviction,” Klopp said at a press conference.

“Top players and top recruitment. Very good players and well-organised, and play a system with 100 per cent conviction,” Klopp said at a press conference.

“They use skills of individuals in incredibly smart ways.

“This is the biggest challenge we have in the Champions League so far. Atalanta are very difficult to play against. Slightly similar to Leeds in their approach. It will be a tough one.”

Klopp confirmed Joel Matip has returned to training and expects to have enough cover in defence, despite the many absentees ahead of the trip to Bergamo.

“We are in a situation we have to deal with, it’s what I expect of us. We know where we stand. We have had setbacks, but we have bounced back.

“It’s really early in the season so we shouldn’t think too much about where we stand in the different competitions.

“Joel [Matip] and Naby [Keita] trained yesterday. We have to wait until the medical department gives us green or orange or red light. We have more centre-halves available than we probably will line up together, so that’s good.”
