The coach said after a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League that his team had lost its trademark intensity and he would therefore take action.

“I didn’t say changes as such, but there will be some adjustments to the situation,” reassured Gasp in today’s press conference.

“We are conceding a few too many goals, perhaps we need to be more focused and provide more protection for the defence. That doesn’t mean transforming the team, but making a few adjustments to protect ourselves during this difficult moment.

“We take it one game at a time, everything is still to play for in the Champions League and we are in a solid Serie A position. We’ll be without Jose Luis Palomino, Robin Gosens and Hans Hateboer, so there might have to be some new faces in the starting XI.

“I expect a difficult match, but it may well come at the right time for us, especially right before the break for international duty. I consider Inter to be an excellent team, albeit one with many highs and lows.”

Gasperini was a coach at the Juventus youth academy, so was asked if he ever trained Antonio Conte there.

“He was with us a few times and always a reference point for the lads too. He played with the same enthusiasm and it has always been a pleasure dealing with him.”
