Antonio Conte comments on Christian Eriksen’s lack of game time: ‘All the choices I make are always and only for the good of Inter not for the good of the single player.’

The former Tottenham star joined Inter one year ago but according to reports in Italy he could leave Milan in the January window due to lack of game time.

"Players must be functional to an idea and a project in order to be competitive at national and international level,” Conte added.

“The modern footballer must be fast, strong, resistant. I take the technique for granted if you join a club like Inter.”

Arturo Vidal has also been criticized by some Inter fans of late, while Alessandro Bastoni made his Italy senior debut earlier this week.

“Vidal is a great player, he always knows what to do on the pitch. He would need two weeks of full immersion trainings but we are playing continuously and he will have to reach the best shape by playing. Arturo can’t be discussed. As for Bastoni, a technician must have a vision. Look at a guy and see what he could become.

“Coaches are never completely satisfied, don’t you know? You’ll never find one, trust me,” he continued.

“Each of us has some situation to fix, some role that they want to cover differently, some men to adapt. It was a difficult market for everyone both in buying and selling.

“The club was clear: they said they would buy new players with proceedings of sales. My task is to work and improve the team that I have.”

What's his relationship with President Steven Zhang?

“He is an extremely prepared, determined and sincere person. Inter is now part of his life, and even when he must necessarily spend time in China, he makes us feel his support.

“The club comes first. For this reason I also work to grow and improve the structures. It is right that everyone, me first, works in function of the club.

“That is why I can assure that anyone who will arrive after me will benefit from the deep work we are doing. There is a long way to get to win. Our competitors are strong.

Napoli, just to name one, have become much stronger. Not to mention Juventus.

“Inter’s image has changed, and that means we did well,” Conte said.

“But also the games against us are prepared differently. The opponents all give the best against us. This championship is harder than last year.

“We have to be good at capturing the right moments in the game, wasting less, avoiding any distraction. In a word, we need to grow. The level of guard of the opponents has risen and you have to understand it well.”

Inter sit last in their Champions League group but their aim is to go qualify for the next stage and Conte believes they can make it.

“We need to perform a feat but we have shown that we can stay in the competition even if the results were not good. We will do everything to stay there."

During the same interview, Conte explained why his Inter side can't be compared with those of Helenio Herrera and José Mourinho.
