Simone Inzaghi wants Lazio to be more ‘consistent’ in 2021 and to finally cut down on the injury list, but assures there’s ‘no problem’ with his contract.

Lazio visit Genoa on Sunday at 14.00 GMT.

The year ended on a low for the Aquile, as they were beaten 3-2 in stoppages by Milan at San Siro, meaning they’ve won just one of their last four Serie A games.

“We watched the Milan game back and we did well, but in these situations, you cannot get away with errors,” said Inzaghi in his press conference.

“We watched the Milan game back and we did well, but in these situations, you cannot get away with errors,” said Inzaghi in his press conference.

“Our performance against Napoli wasn’t as good, but we allowed them very little, which is why we won 2-0. What I want to see in Serie A is some more of the consistency we had in the Champions League, where we are the only Italian team still unbeaten.

“Unfortunately, since we restarted the season after the lockdown, I haven’t had a full squad at my disposal ever. We’ll miss a few tomorrow as well, so we are evaluating with the club what we should do in the January transfer window.”

Inzaghi is also discussing his contract extension with Lazio, having been there for 21 years as player, youth team coach and boss.

“We started talking about the contract renewal in August and the President is someone who keeps his word. There’s a lot of talk about this in the media, but I don’t see any problems. It changes nothing for me if we have the contract already written out and signed or it will be done later.

“There are no problems with President Claudio Lotito, he was satisfied with the recent performances, but disappointed by the result against Milan. We spoke at Christmas and New Year.”

Inzaghi also batted away reports of problems with striker Felipe Caicedo, who was dropped for the Milan game.

“Too much has been said about this, but he’s one of the players that I get along with the best. He had played very well against Napoli just three days before and I thought Vedat Muriqi could give us something different in that game.”
