Udinese coach Luca Gotti was visibly frustrated with his team’s 4-1 defeat to Juventus. ‘We made mistakes that are unusual for us.’

Rodrigo De Paul’s opener was disallowed for handball, then Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace, a Federico Chiesa goal and late Paulo Dybala strike sealed the result.

“We didn’t do well in general, as we were too scrappy and didn’t fit with the ideas that we usually try to rely on,” Gotti told DAZN.

Udinese created plenty of opportunities too, as they hit the woodwork twice and scored with Marvin Zeegelaar.

“When the result changes, so does the attitude. Going into the break 1-0 down or at 1-1 is different. We essentially gifted three goals out of four, conceding with the same situations – through balls into space – and these are mistakes we don’t tend to make, let alone several in a row.”

It is a second consecutive defeat for Udinese, who lost 2-0 to Benevento just before the Christmas break.

“In recent games, we had been very solid defensively, but conceded at the first shot on target. That doesn’t mean losing defensive solidity.

“The difference tonight is that we gave the ball away cheaply, something we don’t usually do, let alone do that against Juventus. These were errors we cannot get away with.

“Rodrigo De Paul constantly takes on the responsibility to play his way out from the back. I want him to continue doing that. Anyone with that kind of responsibility will inevitably lose the ball sometimes and be under pressure. The problem today is that we misread the situations in general today and there was no coverage for it, that is what frustrates me about tonight’s performance.

“There were a lot of mistakes, technical errors, but I didn’t sense the wrong attitude in any way from my men before or during the game.”

Ignacio Pussetto went off at half-time after an awkward landing, but it seems as if the knee and ankle have swollen up.

“We are worried by Pussetto’s injury, which might be more serious than it originally looked. He is not in good shape.”
