There are numerous reports that Inter owners Suning are seeking new investors, potentially even for a complete sale of the club, while salaries could be delayed to help balance the books.

“I want to reassure our fans. The club is solid. We are going through a period of financial contraction in all of football, but we are men of sport and these issues can bring us closer together, focusing on the sense of belonging, honouring the jersey, so I am very positive about our future.”

Christian Eriksen’s agent did not help the situation by appealing to the CONI for unpaid commission fees from his transfer a year ago.

“These are fairly normal approaches in football, but I can assure the club will fulfill its contractual obligations,” added Marotta.

Inter supporters are warned to expect a quiet January transfer window.

“As we’ve said many times, the fact we cannot make big investments can also allow us to make the most of the current squad. We are carefully evaluating a total confirmation of this group.”
