“I am happy that Roberto D’Aversa is back at Parma and imagine it’ll be much like last season’s games against his team. It has always been tough, but my vision of football won’t change,” De Zerbi told the official club website.

The Neroverdi are in a strange period of form, both in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, where they crashed out midweek in a 2-0 home defeat to SPAL.

That Round of 16 tie, and their 3-1 defeat to Juventus, were inevitably transformed by early red cards.

“We had done well until the dismissal, then paid for being a man down. It’s already difficult if you’ve got a lot of players out of action, then go down to 10 men too.

“It’s been tough for the last two or three months, but people might not realise that because in Italy the results overshadow the performance, both in good and bad. Sassuolo are getting results, but as I’ve said several times, we are not in good shape at the moment.

“Tomorrow is just a total emergency situation. We’re without Jeremie Boga, Manuel Locatelli, Domenico Berardi – who will be out for a while – Medhi Bourabia, with Pedro Obiang suspended.

“We’ve got to grit our teeth and keep going with the desire to play football and pick up points. We have problems, but not excuses, so we must try to do our best.

“Football is a wonderful sport because performances are subjective, so a good or bad result won’t change my beliefs. My experience as a coach has always been troubled since the start, so if I got through one bad moment, I can get through them all.”
