Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis praised Stefano Pioli as ‘the right choice’ for the Rossoneri and said veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘is the exception to all rules’.

In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, the Rossoneri CEO spoke about the impressive reign of coach Pioli and claimed he convinced them in the Derby della Madonnina last season.

“Stefano arrived at a difficult time,” Gazidis told Sky Sport Italia. “The impressive thing is that he focused on work, he never complained.

“He has shown everyone that he has the ability to run such a big club. I’m ‘in love’ with Stefano.

“A year ago, against Inter, we saw a game plan that gave us a lot of confidence. We lost, but we understood that Stefano was the right choice.”

The Rossoneri director continued to praise veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic and doesn’t rule out a renewal with the Swede.

“Absolutely, why not,” he said. “He is the exception to all the rules, he is unique.

“He has a history with Milan, this club excites him in a special way.”

Gigio Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu are currently negotiating with the Diavolo and Gazidis reveals the club works hard to renew with the duo.

“We want them to stay here, they are very important for Milan,” he continued. “They are fantastic people and incredible professionals.

“If it’s possible to keep them here, it would be better. We are doing everything we can, I’m confident in the possibility of reaching an agreement with them."
