He did score the equaliser to cancel out the Roberto Soriano opener, but Aaron Hickey saw red for a late tackle on Mert Muldur just 17 minutes into this local derby.

“It’s tough to talk about this game. It didn’t start well, as we went behind after our own errors, there was a red card and sometimes playing against 10 men might seem easier, but it’s not,” Caputo told DAZN.

Bologna put everyone behind the ball, they closed every space and sat so deep. We couldn’t find a way through.

“We’re not picking up as many points as we deserve lately, so we need to be more clinical in front of goal and finish the chances we create, otherwise it ends up like this evening.

“We wanted to win tonight so we could stay in the race for Europe, so there are regrets.”

Caputo lifted his jersey to show off a message on a T-Shirt noting a goal was ‘guaranteed.’ Who was it for?

“The dedication was for a friend of mine called Enzo who is having a rough time. He’s had COVID for six weeks, he lost his mother to COVID as well, so I wanted to give him a shout-out.”
