Corriere Fiorentino reported Sarri met with Fiorentina directors Joe Barone and Daniele Prade in Castelfranco Piandisco, but the patron quashed the rumours and labelled the report ‘fake news’
“I read about this dinner with my executives and jumped in my chair,” Commisso told La Nazione. “By the fury over fake news.
“[CEO Joe] Barone and [sporting director] Daniele Prade were in different places yesterday, it was enough to check before releasing disrupting news.”
The patron explained why he confirmed Beppe Iachini’s position as head coach at the Artemio Franchi last summer.
“A team that survived on the last day by finishing 16th, we took to 10th in the first year,” he said. “No other team had climbed six positions in one year.
“For this, I confirmed Iachini. I thought it was right to give him another opportunity.”
But Iachini was replaced by Prandellli in November and Fiorentina currently sit 14th after 23 games.
“Prandelli has all my support,” Commisso said. “Once again someone had begun to criticise him.
“Until halfway through the game against Spezia, I only heard criticism.
“But does it seem normal to you after a 3-0 win to hear even more criticism than approval at the end?”
Prandelli’s contract expires in June and Commisso said he expected to improve on last season.
“In my logic, I would have expected to do better than last year. But I won’t decide only on the basis of that.”
Commisso hits out at the critics and whoever accuses him of not having a plan with the Viola.
“This is beautiful. I programmed through investments,” he said. “Real money.
“Whoever accuses me of this would like to decide where and how to spend my money. Does it seem normal to you?
“In a year I spent more to manage Fiorentina than it cost to buy Spezia. The truth is that when in 2002 the team had to be bought for a few millions, no Florentine came forward.”
