The Rossoneri had been on the slide recently, but emerged from the Stadio Olimpico with all three points thanks to a Franck Kessie penalty – won due to Federico Fazio’s foul on Calabria – and Ante Rebic.

“It’s a fundamental match for us, for the table, for our confidence. Our last few games weren’t good, we looked each other in the eyes and knew what we had to do,” Calabria told Sky Sport Italia.

The full-back has gone from being a pariah among Milan fans to a regular at right-back and potential Italy international.

“The whole Milan project has changed completely over the last year and so has my place in it. I now want to keep doing my best, we know there’s a long way to go.

“I hope to achieve my targets for Milan and then as an individual earn my place in the Euros squad.”
