Chelsea boss Tomas Tuchel reveals his ex-coach Ralf Rangnick used to show him videos of Parma back in the '90s.

Rangnick, who was close to becoming the new Milan gaffer last summer, was Tuchel’s coach at Regionalliga Südwest from 1996 to 1998.

“As a player, Rangnick was my coach and he showed us in third division that you don’t need to follow the striker to the toilet when you play in a back four, which is something we had never heard before,” Tuchel told Chelsea’s official website.

“As a player, Rangnick was my coach and he showed us in third division that you don’t need to follow the striker to the toilet when you play in a back four, which is something we had never heard before,” Tuchel told Chelsea’s official website.

“He showed us video from Parma and Dynamo Kiev and made us play like them. That was a new horizon,” he continued.

“My role model for guidance was my father, he was my coach when I was a young player, he taught me all his passions. He had a big influence in my coaching. Then I entered the academy of Stuttgart, which was famous at that time. I could learn everything I could about coaching, which is not only arriving half an hour before training.

“In Stuttgart I met influential people, Hermann Badsduber, th father of the player from Bayern Munich, who unfortunately died too early.

“He had a big influence on me and become like a second-father figure in coaching. He showed me how curious and how many things you must do when you want to be a good coach.”
