Italian Football Federation Vice-President Demetrio Albertini believes that Spain and the Azzurri are still favourites to progress from Euro 2012 Group C.

Croatia currently lead the standings after their 3-1 win over the Republic of Ireland, while Italy held Spain to a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

“The draw would have satisfied both sides,” the former Milan, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona man stated. “Both teams will be happy with a point.

“We saw a game between two great sides and either one of them could have gone home with all three points.”

The Azzurri lined up with a 3-5-2 system, while Spain opted against using a recognised striker from the start.

“Italy played with quantity and quality,” Albertini continued. “The Italian side underlined their experience.

“Spain perhaps should have started the game with a real forward to give the team a reference point in attack, but they still had their chances.

“Now we have the game against Croatia, but I’m certain that we and Spain will be favourites to progress from the group.”

The next two Group C games will take place on Thursday.
