Inter youngster Philippe Coutinho feels he’s a better player thanks to his six-month loan spell at Espanyol last season.

The Brazilian joined the Liga giants in January after struggling to get a game under previous Nerazzurri boss Claudio Ranieri.

Coutinho grabbed five goals in 16 appearances for the Spaniards before being recalled in the summer at the request of new Coach Andrea Stramaccioni.

“Going to Spain has definitely benefited me and then coming back and finding a Coach like Stramaccioni gives us all confidence,” the 20-year-old stated.

Coutinho has played four times in Serie A so far this term, while he’s featured in six Europa League matches – his latest last night when he netted with a back-heel against Neftci in a 3-1 win.

“I'm happy we played so well,” the South American added. “Will I get a chance to shine in the derby too on Sunday? It's up to the Coach, not me.

“The derby is always a difficult game, hopefully we'll be able to keep up the form we've shown in the last few games and get another win.”
