Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi has backed Marco Borriello to return to the Italian international set-up after his 2012-13.
The striker has scored 12 goals in 27 League games and is one of the reasons why the Rossoblu have escaped relegation.
“I don’t understand why Borriello still hasn’t been called up to the Italy side,” Preziosi told Primo Canale.
The 30-year-old striker returned to Marassi last summer for a second spell with the club after a loan deal was agreed with Roma.
“He received a standing ovation from the fans on Sunday,” the President added. “Maybe he could have got five or six more goals this term, but it’s all good.
“His future? It is not just up to me whether he stays or not…”
Borriello has only won seven caps for his country and he has no goals. His last appearance came in a 1-1 draw with Germany back in February 2011.
