Eusebio Di Francesco believed Sassuolo were level with Genoa yesterday, and that poor finishing contributed to their demise.

The Neroverdi were defeated 2-0 in their return to League action from the winter break, thanks to first half goals from Alberto Gilardino and Andrea Bertolacci.

“We tried but we were not decisive in front of goal,” Di Francesco complained afterwards.

“I believe the game has been played at an even level, the penalty has broken the balance, but we must admit that we were not brilliant.

“I had hoped for a different performance from the boys.”

Second top scorer Simone Zaza notably started the fixture from the bench.

“I do not believe that his starting would have changed anything – you make choices and you try to make the most of the characteristics of the team.

“We are evaluating different situations in the market, certainly [Lorenzo] Ariaudo [signed from Cagliari] is a player that we needed.”
