Benitez: 'Napoli missing something'

Rafa Benitez concedes Napoli “are still missing something” after their last-gasp 2-2 draw against 10-man Bologna.

“It was difficult to find space with Bologna’s pressing and intensity, but we improved after the break and against 10 men we should’ve scored a third goal to finish them off. We didn’t do that,” admitted the Coach on Sky Sport Italia.

“The corner was not easy to defend from, but we should’ve avoided that situation by scoring a third goal before that.”

With Juventus, Roma and Fiorentina all winning, are Napoli bound to let go of their Scudetto dreams and does that make the season a failure already?

“I believe Napoli’s campaign is very positive. Of course we can improve and this game shows we are still missing something.

“Did you expect Juventus to get 55 points? Last season at this stage Juve had 45 points, so we are on track. Napoli have had a very good season, but Juventus and Roma have done better. That’s all.

“In recent outings we’ve been more solid and didn’t concede many, but today Rolando Bianchi did very well.

“If the opposition is very intense in its pressing then it becomes difficult. Our characteristics are that we score a lot of goals, but are still trying to find our balance in defence. We didn’t defend properly on that corner.”

Jorginho completed his transfer from Hellas Verona on Saturday and other new buys are expected.

“After a match like this I don’t think it’s wise to talk about the transfer market. We need to first of all find a balance within the side on the field.”
