Juve dominate annual awards

The Gran Gala del Calcio was held yesterday, with Juventus dominating proceedings scooping best player, Coach and club awards.

The annual awards recognising the best from the preceding season were held in Milan on Monday evening and for the second year in a row, Andrea Pirlo was named Player of the Year, for his efforts during 2012-13.

Coach of the Year was picked up by Antonio Conte, also for a second successive time, whilst best club was also awarded to the Old Lady.

Organised and run by the Italian Footballers’ Association, the awards are into their third year and nominated by a panel of players, Coaches, referees and journalists.

Juve also saw Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Arturo Vidal voted into the Best XI.

Best right-centre-back: Andrea Barzagli, Juventus [second Marquinhos, third Ogbonna]

Best right-back: Christian Maggio, Napoli [second Zuniga, third Lichtsteiner]

Best creative midfielder: Andrea Pirlo, Juventus [second Diamanti, third De Rossi]

Best central midfielder: Borja Valero, Fiorentina [second Pogba, third Marchisio]

Best outside midfielder: Arturo Vidal, Juventus [second Hamsik, third Cuadrado]

Best attacker: Mario Balotelli, Milan [second Vucinic, third Palacio]

Best right-sided forward: Antonio Di Natale, Udinese [second Totti, third Jovetic]

Best left-sided forward: Edinson Cavani, Napoli [second Klose, third El Shaarawy]

Best youngster: Domenico Berardi, Sassuolo

Best women’s footballer: Melania Gabbiadini, Verona

Best referee: Nicola Rizzoli
