Barcelona and Napoli are reportedly close to agreeing a deal for Javier Mascherano, but the player is apparently reluctant to accept the move.

The Argentine midfielder, who has played predominantly as a centre-back during his time at the Camp Nou, has been continually linked with a move to the Stadio San Paolo, to reunite with former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.

The 29-year-old then hinted after Barca’s 0-0 draw with Elche at the weekend that his time with the Catalans could be drawing to a close.

Sport understand that the Blaugrana are open to accepting offers in the region of €15m and that this is a figure Napoli would be willing to meet.

However, where it is seen that the clubs are close on terms, the player is described as less open to a move to the Vesuviani, holding particular reservations about him and his family living in Naples.

It is also believed that former side Liverpool are one of other clubs apparently tracking the international and that they may be a preferred option for Mascherano.
