Low compliments Klinsmann

Germany boss Joachim Low complimented USA Coach Jurgen Klinsmann after both sides progressed to the Last 16.

The 1-0 German victory proved enough to see the Americans through as well on goal difference, despite Portugal beating Ghana 2-1.

“I knew it would be difficult today and it was,” Low told FIFA.

“USA defended deep, they were well organised, but I have to say we dominated, denying them good chances in the process. Our midfield was great today - they were dynamic and never stopped running.

“In the Round of 16 it’s all or nothing. If you don’t win, you go home.”

A draw would’ve guaranteed both sides go through, but Germany played to win and got their result.

“I asked Jurgen for the result of the other match, which I didn’t know, and then he told me that they’d qualifed. I told him that I was happy for him.

“It wasn’t easy for USA – everyone thought Portugal would qualify, but they’ve done it. They’re tough opponents and they’ve deserved it.”
