UEFA have opened an enquiry into the ‘alleged racist comments’ made by new FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio.

The new head of Italian football’s governing body referred to African players as ‘banana eaters’ during the run up to the presidential elections, but still defeated opponent Demetrio Albertini in the vote.

However, it has now emerged that European football’s premier organisation are reviewing the comments, with Tavecchio likely to face punishment if found guilty.
