Maurizio Zamparini reiterates that his intention is to keep Beppe Iachini at Palermo, but he admits a planned meeting ‘is essential’ to moving forward.

The Rosanero will spend the October international break in crisis having suffered a Week 6 3-0 defeat to fellow newly-promoted outfit Empoli to leave them 19th and without a win.

Having commented on the desire to pull the squad into a training retreat during the break, the club President has reflected on rectifying the situation and if Iachini will be on his bench come Week 7.

Having commented on the desire to pull the squad into a training retreat during the break, the club President has reflected on rectifying the situation and if Iachini will be on his bench come Week 7.

“Iachini stays with us, but we have to sit around a table and talk, reasoning without any motives,” Zamparini has told today’s edition of the Giornale di Sicilia.

“We did not speak by phone, but I sent him a text message. From the next match against Cesena you should see something very different, starting with the attitude in the defensive phase.

“You cannot concede 10 goals in three matches. What was at Empoli was the worst of Palermo from the last two years, an unwatchable team, player by player and for how they were on the field.

“The Coach was arrogant in wanting to line up with three strikers away to the Tuscans. After the international break we will have Ezequiel Munoz and Giancarlo Gonzalez back with us, who now more than ever I am convinced are essential to our defensive solidity.

“It will be essential, however, the meeting with my Coach. I have my ideas, I think I know what is wrong with the team and I hope that Iachini also knows.

“Our League, however, will resume in two weeks. A new cycle begins, we have messed up the first one.”
