Walter Gargano says he prefers Rafa Benitez approach at Napoli to that of Walter Mazzarri, as he expresses gratitude to the Spaniard.

Mazzarri was Coach at Napoli for four years, before departing for Inter, with Benitez replacing him on the San Paolo bench.

Having played under both, Gargano assessed the different styles of the two tacticians today.

“They have a different mentality,” the Uruguayan considered in a Press conference ahead of the Partenopei’s Europe League game with Young Boys.

“Rafa likes to play with only a few touches, and very fast. I prefer this approach, Barcelona won a lot of things playing like that.

“The Spanish mentality is in the Coach’s blood.”

Gargano returned to Napoli in the summer having been on loan to Inter and Parma in the last two seasons, but is adamant that he is happy to be back in Naples.

“Returning to Napoli was a choice made by me, the Coach and my family.

“I want to thank Benitez, the club and the fans, because they’re slowly regaining their confidence in me.

“It was hard to come back, I understand why the fans would be unhappy. That’s football.

“The Coach [Benitez] went to Chelsea, and wasn’t fully appreciated by the fans in London, we talked a lot about that when I came back and we still do.

“It didn’t go down well with the Napoli fans, me playing for two different teams, but I’ve always given everything for this shirt.

“I’ve never experienced an atmosphere like the one here. I’ve had two children in Naples, and I’ll be connected to Naples for life.

“There was nothing more beautiful to me that to come back here.”
