Official: Sousa Fiorentina Coach

Fiorentina have officially appointed Paulo Sousa as their new Coach after he left Basel FC.

The decision had been in the air for around 10 days, but was only formalised with a statement this afternoon.

“ACF Fiorentina is delighted to announce that an agreement has today been reached with Mr. Paulo Sousa for him to become the new first-team Coach of the Viola.

“Mr. Sousa will be in Florence tomorrow to complete the formalities. A news conference will be held at the Stadio Artemio Franchi tomorrow, Monday 22 June, at 19:00” (18.00 UK time, 17.00 GMT).

The Viola needed a new boss after sacking Vincenzo Montella, as he hesitated when asked to commit his future to the club.

Sousa quickly emerged as the favourite and became available after terminating his contract with Basel by mutual consent.
