Paulo Sousa complained Fiorentina “need to be more determined in front of goal” after a 0-0 friendly with Gyirmot Gyor.

The disappointing performance saw the Viola hit the woodwork twice with Stefan Savic and Josip Ilicic against the Hungarians.

“I love the way everyone is training, trying to understand my methods and how happy they want me to be,” said Sousa.

The disappointing performance saw the Viola hit the woodwork twice with Stefan Savic and Josip Ilicic against the Hungarians.

“I love the way everyone is training, trying to understand my methods and how happy they want me to be,” said Sousa.

“I saw character at Fiorentina today and the right moments to speed up our play in search of a goal. We created so many scoring opportunities, but need to be more determined in front of goal.

“Right now we are only 40 to 50 per cent fit, so I saw speed of thought rather than quick legs.”

The Coach was asked about reports Mario Gomez is heading to Turkey for Besiktas or Galatasaray.

“Mario Gomez is our player and we want to put him in the best condition to do well. He is working very hard. As long as he is here with us, we’ll do everything to make him give his best.

“If all goes well, Giuseppe Rossi will be able to play a few minutes in our next friendly against Carpi. Khouma Babacar and Federico Bernardeschi are working hard and we want to encourage more young players to come through.

“Borja Valero has an extraordinary ability to understand the timing and corridors for passes. We are working with him to help his teammates think the same way he does, because at times he takes them by surprise too.”

Goalkeeper Luigi Sepe arrived on loan from Napoli, so will he be the new first choice ahead of Ciprian Tatarusanu?

“I am in favour of competition, but the goalkeeper is a more sensitive situation. At the start of the season we’ll speak to one goalkeeper and I want to put faith in him even if there are a few mistakes.”
