Elio Capradossi is out for five to six months with injury, and Roma now have only three central defenders in their Champions League list.
The young defender was hurt last Thursday in the U20 Italy match against Germany, played as part of the Four Nations Tournament alongside Poland and Switzerland.
Capradossi flew back to Roma, where further exams confirmed a cruciate ligament injury.
The player will undergo surgery with Pier Paolo Marini in the next few days and will not be available for an estimated five to six months.
