Italy can still be top seeds for the Euro 2016 draw, but need a series of other results to go their way.

The Azzurri have already qualified and a point against Norway on Tuesday will be enough to ensure they win the group.

However, the complex ranking system means as things stand the Euro 2012 Finalists won’t be top seeds in the draw on December 15.

There are six seeds out of the 24 sides competing at the European Championships in France and so far they are France, Spain, England, Portugal and Germany.

Italy are currently eighth in the UEFA ranking, so must fight it out with the Netherlands and Belgium.

Therefore, in order to be seeded, Italy must beat Norway, then hope that Turkey avoid defeat with Iceland – thus eliminating Holland entirely – and Belgium don’t beat Israel.

There is the possibility of surpassing Belgium anyway, but only by getting a +4 goal difference against Norway compared to the Belgian result.

In other words, if Belgium beat Israel 1-0, then Italy have to defeat Norway 5-0.
