Roberto Donadoni admits 'several teams are stronger than Bologna' and discusses Mattia Destro: 'He needs everybody's help'.

The 52-year-old was able to train his new team for the first time this afternoon, and he spoke to the Press immediately after the session.

“There are several teams that are better than we are,” he said. “Today I met the team and I didn't say much, but I told them I believe in them very much and we can get out of this situation together. No more than that.

“We're in a fundamental year and we must limit damage. I had other offers and I could have earned more elsewhere, but listening to the president [Joey Saputo] and the directors, I was convinced to join this environment.

“Bologna are the fourth youngest team in Serie A and the second, after Empoli, in terms of the highest number of young players deployed on the pitch. I'm here to bring out the best in these lads.”

Donadoni was then asked about the formation that he had in mind for the Felsinei.

“Having a knowledge of the human material is essential, so I must first know the players and find out what it is they want.

“Destro is a player who scored consistently and he hasn't forgotten how that's done. But he needs everybody's help.

“Strikers under my supervision have always scored. Everybody believes in him and I'm certain he'll return to scoring.

“If I leave Destro alone in the box I don't have much of a chance. I must bring three or four players there and we can improve our goal-scoring.

“[Lorenzo] Crisetig? He's an interesting young player. He was signed because he was in the Italy U21 team and very much will depend on him.

“We'll try to put him in the right conditions for him to play at his best.”
