Udinese defender Molla Wague reveals he was in the Mali hotel just before it was attacked by terrorists.

“I just about escaped the Bamako massacre,” he told the Messaggero Veneto newspaper.

“I was at the Radisson Blu hotel until Wednesday before getting the flight back to Italy.”

Armed men laid siege to the hotel, killing and taking hostages.

Wague was born in France, but his parents are from Mali and he chose to represent the African nation at international level.

“For at least five years Mali has become a risky place for foreigners to visit. It’s the fault of the northern rebels, the same ones who attacked the hotel last week.

“France had controlled the country in the colonial era. We must try to normalise the situation, even if it’s difficult to overcome the violence of those people.

“I am Muslim and I can guarantee the Quran speaks only of peace. Those who kill in the name of our religion are impostors who manipulate people in the name of small verses interpreted in a specific way.

“My family lives in Paris, the Saint-Denis district, close to where the ISIS terrorists attacked. I immediately called home and only calmed down after hearing they were indoors and ok.”
