Vincenzo Montella warned Sampdoria are “tense and fragile” after a fourth consecutive defeat.

The Blucerchiati were crushed 3-1 on home turf by Sassuolo this evening, meaning he has lost all three games since taking over from Walter Zenga, scoring two goals and conceding 10.

“I saw a game where the team tried to bring forward the ideas we’ve been developing over the last few days,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Sassuolo are certainly well-drilled and more of a team than we are right now. We couldn’t have chosen a worse opponent for this moment of the season.

“After Sassuolo hit the woodwork, my team just melted and paradoxically only started playing with clear heads after going 3-0 down. That’s the attitude I want to see all the time.

“The players are far too tense and to do better they must enjoy their football more. This is the time to prove we are a good team.

“It’s not that the players don’t work hard, they do, but the team is so fragile right now and I don’t see how a training retreat would help.

“As they say in football, we need that little bit of luck to restore confidence. If Ervin Zukanovic’s goal had been scored when it was still 0-0, the team would’ve played with a different attitude.

“We are wounded and must tend to those wounds.”
