Palermo got their first victory under Ballardini by beating Frosinone 4-1 last week.

“Vazquez is a great player and we really understood how decisive he is when we weren’t able to count on him.

“We go forward confident that our ideas are right and our work is improving the team. We have to play with humility and work hard for every ball.”

Luca Rigoni is frozen out and could well be sold in January following a row with President Maurizio Zamparini.

“Will Rigoni stay? That’s up to him,” noted Ballardini. “Whoever plays for Palermo must do so with enthusiasm and passion.

“If Rigoni does leave, then obviously he has to be replaced, perhaps even with someone better.”

Palermo squad for Sampdoria: Alastra, Colombi, Sorrentino; Andelkovic, Goldaniga, Gonzalez, Lazaar, Morganella, Pezzella, Rispoli, Struna; Bolzoni, Brugman, Chochev, Hiljemark, Jajalo, Quaison, Toscano; Djurdjevic, Gilardino, La Gumina, Trajkovski, Vazquez
