Genoa did not give up after going 3-0 down and we did very well to take our chances. You can’t lower the concentration levels in Serie A, as there’s always a risk. This will serve us well for the future.

“I am very happy for the fans and the lads, though we need to improve a great deal. We want to improve the team in future, the club knows that.”

Antonio Cassano was inspirational with a series of assists and an excellent individual performance.

“He deserves to play, has great quality and a Coach must look at what he sees on the field. Can Cassano get back into the Italy squad? I don’t know, but he is motivated.

“Eder came off because he had a muscular problem and it was a joint decision, just as a precaution.”

Montella was asked about reports Sampdoria will sign Rossi on loan from his old club Fiorentina.

“Rossi is phenomenal, but we already have a similar player in the squad and that is Cassano. I believe Pepito can confirm himself in the Viola jersey.”
