“Vincenzo is a great Coach and a man who has an important vision of football,” Ferrero told FirenzeViola.it.

“You can say he is ahead of the curve compared to the current football culture because not only does he want to win, but he also wants the fans to be entertained. He doesn’t teach how to kick the ball, he teaches the sport itself.

“I’d been following his progress for many years because he was an idol to me as a Roma player. As a Coach I courted him for a year and a half, so in the end that hard work paid off. I got him to wear the Blucerchiati colours.”

Ferrero is Roman and a self-confessed Giallorossi supporter, but finds himself in a bit of a bind this weekend.

“Fiorentina represent a derby for me, because my wife is from Florence. In truth there are several sporting rivalries in the family, as my children are Romanisti, while my wife and her family are all Viola fans.

“Despite that, it remains a game I always want to win.”
