“I have been in the Italy side for many years, but this time I really did fear not being part of the squad, so the joy of making the journey is even more special,” confessed De Rossi.

“Both my wife and Florenzi’s are fairly heavily pregnant, so they won’t be coming with us. In Florenzi’s case there is the possibility she could give birth during the competition.”

He famously scored a Serie A goal and climbed into the stands to hug his grandmother.
“It was her first time at the stadium, so I promised to go to her if I scored.”
Florenzi netted an extraordinary goal from midfield against Barcelona in the Champions League, nominated for the Puscas Award as the most beautiful strike of the season.
