Having broken through at Anderlecht at the age of 16, the Belgian was regarded as one of football’s brightest young talents.

However, after just two Serie A appearances for Fiorentina and an unsuccessful spell with Genoa, he returned to the Jupiler League.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Vanden Borre caused a scene in Brussels airport last week.

It’s reported that the 28-year-old turned up late for his flight to Crete, and was informed that he would not be allowed to board.

It’s claimed Vanden Borre then went into a rage, and said the word “bomb” as part of an angry tirade, a particularly sensitive issue the suicide bombings at Brussels Airport earlier this year.

The Anderlecht player then reportedly said he would buy his own plane, so he didn’t have to take orders from staff.

Vanden Borre is reported to have apologised when security staff intervened to calm him down.

A representative for the player confirmed that he had missed his flight to Crete, but refused to state whether he was now banned from flying with the airline in question.
