Roma President Jim Pallotta praised Daniele De Rossi’s “incredible leadership” and is “very happy” with the squad at Luciano Spalletti’s disposal.
He spoke to the official club website just hours before the Serie A season opener against Udinese.

He spoke to the official club website just hours before the Serie A season opener against Udinese.
“Feeling great. Love the team. Fantastic character. Should be much stronger in defence and good to have Kevin (Strootman) back.
“Our goal was to strengthen our defence, which we accomplished. Unfortunately we’ve had a few injuries, but hopefully they’ll be back soon and healthy.
“Our goal was also to integrate our new players we had bought earlier, like Alisson and Gerson, and bring back players like Leandro Paredes. All in all, I’m very, very happy.”
Was it the intention to pack the squad with leadership figures?
“Absolutely! Luciano demands it and so do I. We texted earlier this week, before the Porto game. Luciano loves this group.”
The Giallorossi began their competitive campaign this week with a 1-1 Champions League draw away to Porto, so the second leg will be decisive next Tuesday.
“Very happy. We looked super for the first 30 minutes and could have been up a few goals. It’s so difficult to play in that stadium with their crowd and to come out with a draw having played for so long with 10 men… I couldn’t be prouder of the boys.
“De Rossi was everywhere and provided incredible leadership, especially with a man down. He’s in terrific shape.”
Pallotta was asked if he remained as passionate and committed to Roma as he was when first taking over.
“Way, way more! Learn from mistakes and keep moving forward. We are getting there. I can’t wait for the first day in the stadium.”
