Marek Hamsik felt Napoli should treasure the point earned at Pescara after a comeback, as it was down to “character.”

The Partenopei opened the campaign trailing 2-0 at the Stadio Adriatico, but Dries Mertens came off the bench to bag a quick brace for the final 2-2 result.

“We allowed Pescara too much room to play the way they wanted to with ball to feet,” Hamsik told Mediaset Premium.

“In the first half we were too narrow and tense, but then we brought out our character. The League isn’t going to be decided now. It would’ve been important to start well, we were unable to win, but we should treasure this point anyway.”

Mertens glared over at Coach Maurizio Sarri after his first goal, so is the Belgium international too good to be on the bench?

“We have wingers who can score double figures this season. Dries proved that today, in other games it’ll be Lorenzo Insigne who does.”

Gonzalo Higuain scored eight minutes into his Juventus debut to earn a 2-1 win over Fiorentina last night.

“Of course it was a strange feeling seeing him celebrate with the Juventus shirt, but this is football,” added Hamsik.

The captain was the only player who was authorised to speak with the media, as Sarri did not attend post-match interviews.
