“We have already forgotten the most recent victories, as we are concentrated on tomorrow’s game against a very important side,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“It’ll be a very difficult match and we’ll see what stage we’re at in the growth process. In fact, when are the easy games coming up?” he joked ahead of fixtures with Sassuolo, Chievo, Juventus and Genoa.

“The aspiration for any Coach is to give something more to his team. I am very optimistic when it comes to my work.”

Naturally, this is a return to the Stadio Franchi for Montella, who left Fiorentina in tense circumstances after complaining about the transfer strategy.

“I am happy to be back in Florence, where I have many friends, and I’ll stay in the city after the game regardless of the result. I had great respect for everyone. I told the club I no longer had the motivation to continue and was very honest, then we know how it ended.

“My era with the Viola had come to an end. I had a splendid rapport with the fans.”

Montella was asked about the focus on young Italian players in the current Milan squad.

“Every Coach is happy to work with many young players, because it means we can build for the future. President Silvio Berlusconi is also happy to see so many young Italians on the pitch.

“Davide Calabria has strong characteristics and we kept him at Milan because we can see excellent quality. M’Baye Niang is doing great things, but must do even more. He must learn to deal with various moments and understand when it’s time to pass or keep the ball.

“Both Niang and Suso have big margins for improvement. If I choose the same line-up tomorrow that beat Lazio, that does not mean it is my definitive XI.”
